Here comes the horde

Vampire Survivors (VS) was a simple and unassuming game when it first came onto the gaming scene. However, it quickly became a sleeper hit and garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback from reviewers and gamers alike. It was so popular that it created a new sub-genre called vampire survivors-like, sometimes just survivors-like. Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde is a recent release that falls under this new category.

Instead of a pixel look, this game opts for a hand-drawn art style. Controls are simple and have native controller support. The gameplay loop is quite similar to VS, as you pick from various Spirit Hunters with unique powers to take on hordes of enemies. Choose from random upgrades and perks as you level up to help you reach further.

The game also boasts a wide meta-progression system that lets you interchange skills and abilities among your characters to create unique combinations. Having said that, though, the skill tree itself is quite convoluted and hard to navigate. Also, there are some balancing issues among the available characters that tend to lean one way over others. Apart from the different visuals, Spirit Hunters: Infinite Horde plays much like the game it's trying to emulate. Two of its highlight features, character variety and skill progression, still need more work to iron out their glaring issues.
